The Alamo is a historic Spanish mission and fortress compound located in downtown San Antonio, Texas. Originally Mission San Antonio de Valero, it served as a key military outpost and religious center in the 18th and early 19th centuries.
It is most famously known as the site of the 1836 Battle of the Alamo during the Texas Revolution. This pivotal military engagement, though a defeat for Texian forces, became a powerful symbol of courage and sacrifice, inspiring the rallying cry "Remember the Alamo" and ultimately contributing to Texas's independence.
